What Winning Looks Like For This Position

The Assistant Product Manager position supports one of Horizon Performance’s premier Special Operations clients.  You will help lead a team of technical advisors and organizational consultants dedicated to excellent software delivery and superior client support.  This position is located on-site in the Jacksonville, NC area and will require travel (less than 20%) to remote client locations in the southeastern United States.  Work may include strenuous activity in austere environments and moving equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.  You will report directly to Horizon Performance’s on-site Lead and perform work for the client’s Program Manager.


Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the daily performance of client computer systems, servers, and software, to include coordinating and executing system technology refreshes and upgrades.
  • Know the GideonSoft (proprietary software) product, its functionality and lifecycle, at expert level. 
  • Develop training materials or procedures, and train clients in the proper use of hardware and software.
  • Document software defects using a bug tracking system, and report defects to software developers.
  • Collaborate with Organizational Consultants and the Data Analytics team to design performance model specifications and configure software for use.
  • Oversee data entry and performance analysis, keeping the product and project managers apprised of performance and client feedback. 
  • Oversee the surveillance of data accuracy, system performance, and relevant documentation to ensure alignment with requirements. 
  • Write reports on and communicate findings from data analyses and recommend changes to client’s operational data capturing processes. 
  • Use reporting software to build client reports that accurately present performance data.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring quality and timely client support.
  • Provide guidance and resources to the team, ensuring expert consulting and software delivery in line with Horizon Performance methodology.
  • Establish a strong working relationship with project leadership, conducting face-to-face interactions with key personnel to provide high-level support for the delivery of products and services.
  • Assist the client’s project leadership to overcome challenges and resolve issues or complaints. 
  • Effectively communicate to Horizon Performance leadership any work issues, personnel concerns, or resource needs. 


Needed to Win

  • 3-4 years of product support experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams through training and technical support.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately sequence timelines to meet objectives and provide solutions that support desired outcomes.
  • Experience with initiating, preserving, and growing client relationships.
  • Experience communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences, both orally and in written forms.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to coach, encourage, and inspire team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and comfortable learning new software solutions for everyday use.
  • Able to take direction, seek clarification, stay organized, and provide results on time without regular oversight.
  • Able to work well in a team environment (collaborating with others in brainstorming, giving and receiving feedback, and strategizing) as well as independently (working on projects away from the office).
  • Demonstrated initiative, personal drive, and commitment. This position will require someone who looks for more to do, is constantly improving, and approaches work with an enterprising attitude.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business management or a relevant technical discipline.
  • Experience in a collaborative product or software role.
  • Experience integrating software solutions into daily workflow.
  • Experience working in a military environment.
  • Knowledge of organizational psychology principles (or similar field).
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and basic SQL Script Writing.

This work will require:

  • United States Citizenship, with ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Fluent in English with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, as a team member and independently, with all levels and types of staff throughout the organization.
