StrategyPlus
Mission driven organizations do not maximize their impact by chance. They do so through intentional strategy and aligned leadership. Horizon’s StrategyPlus™ is a strategic planning experience that helps nonprofit leaders clarify their vision, make informed decisions, and develop actionable plans that advance their mission while preparing for future growth. Using Horizon’s proven Framing Model, leadership teams identify where the organization is today, where it aspires to go, and the priorities required to maximize long term impact. The result is a practical strategic blueprint that aligns leadership, strengthens governance, guides resource allocation, and creates confidence for staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
Real Result: A regional nonprofit had grown rapidly over the past decade but struggled to balance expanding programs with long term sustainability. Rather than conducting a traditional strategic planning retreat, Horizon partnered with the executive director and board through a series of facilitated planning sessions over three months. Between each session, leadership gathered stakeholder feedback, refined priorities, and validated assumptions before moving to the next phase. By the end of the engagement, the organization had developed a strategic roadmap that aligned the board, executive leadership, and staff around common priorities. The plan became more than a document. It became the framework for fundraising, program expansion, staffing decisions, and board governance, allowing the organization to confidently pursue its mission with greater focus and accountability.
Engage 360
Leading a mission driven organization often means carrying the weight of the mission, the board, the staff, and the community at the same time. Horizon’s Engage 360™ is a confidential executive coaching and strategic advisory engagement designed for executive directors, CEOs, and nonprofit leaders. Through one on one coaching, leadership assessments, and organizational consultation, Horizon helps leaders navigate governance, strategic growth, organizational culture, board relationships, and leadership effectiveness. Every engagement provides a confidential space to think strategically, strengthen leadership capacity, and lead with greater clarity and confidence.
Real Result: An executive director leading a rapidly growing nonprofit found herself balancing board expectations, fundraising responsibilities, staff development, and organizational expansion with little time to think strategically. Horizon partnered with her through Engage 360™, creating a confidential environment to explore leadership challenges, organizational priorities, and difficult decisions. Over the course of the engagement, she strengthened relationships with her board, developed a more capable leadership team, and shifted from personally driving every initiative to empowering others throughout the organization. The result was a healthier organization, a more confident executive leader, and a mission positioned for sustainable growth.
Horizon Debrief
Mission driven organizations are defined not by the obstacles they face, but by how they respond to them. Horizon’s Debrief™ – After Action Review (AAR) is a structured, facilitated process that helps nonprofit leadership teams pause, assess, and realign following a major initiative, fundraising campaign, organizational change, or unexpected challenge. Guided by a Horizon consultant, participants examine what happened, why it happened, what should continue, and what must change. The result is more than a discussion. It is an actionable roadmap that aligns leadership, strengthens collaboration, and ensures the organization remains focused on advancing its mission.
Real Result: A nonprofit concluded its largest annual fundraising campaign well below expectations. Staff members were discouraged, departments blamed one another, and board confidence had begun to erode. Horizon facilitated a Debrief™ that brought together leadership, development, communications, and program staff to objectively examine every phase of the campaign. The team identified disconnects between fundraising strategy and program messaging, clarified roles, and established a year round donor engagement plan. The following year, the organization exceeded its fundraising goal, strengthened board engagement, and created a collaborative planning process that continues to guide every major initiative.
Core 3
Every mission driven organization begins with a clear purpose. Horizon’s Core 3™ process is a facilitated leadership experience that helps nonprofit organizations define the three foundational elements that drive lasting impact: Mission (what we do), Vision (where we are going), and Values (how we operate along the journey). Through a collaborative process, leadership teams establish a shared direction that aligns strategy, strengthens culture, and creates organizational clarity. Rather than becoming statements reserved for annual reports, the Core 3™ becomes the foundation for leadership development, board governance, strategic planning, fundraising, and daily decision making.
Real Result: As a nonprofit expanded into new communities, its executive director realized the organization’s growth had outpaced its alignment. Horizon partnered with the executive team over six facilitated leadership sessions spanning four months, allowing leaders to build the Core 3™ while continuing to serve their communities. Each session focused on one component of the framework, giving leaders time to apply concepts and gather feedback before moving to the next step. By the conclusion of the engagement, the organization had established a clear Mission, Vision, and Values that were embraced by the board, staff, and volunteers alike. Departments began aligning their annual goals with the Core 3™, creating greater consistency in decision making, stronger collaboration, and renewed confidence in the organization’s long-term direction.
Team Pulse 360
Healthy teams create greater mission impact. Horizon’s Team Pulse 360™ is an annual organizational health program that includes four quarterly Team Temperature Checks, giving nonprofit leaders ongoing insight into the health of their teams and organizational culture. Powered by GideonSoft, every assessment compares the leader’s perception of the team with how team members actually experience it across seven critical team dynamics. Through workforce analytics, quarterly reporting, and longitudinal trend analysis, leaders identify emerging challenges, strengthen engagement, and make informed leadership decisions throughout the year.
Real Result: A growing nonprofit wanted to ensure its culture remained healthy as new programs and employees were added. The first Team Pulse 360™ showed that while directors believed their teams felt connected to the organization’s mission, employees reported uncertainty around communication, recognition, and workload. Rather than waiting for an annual engagement survey, quarterly reporting allowed each director to adjust leadership practices and immediately measure progress. By year’s end, engagement improved across every department, leaders developed greater self awareness, and the organization established a continuous feedback process that strengthened both culture and mission delivery.
